cmi (Colonial Mills, Inc.), a leading manufacturer of braided-texture area rugs and a winner of a AmericasMart® America’s Magnificent Carpets Award this past January for its Thimbleberries® tisburytm design, announces the appointment of Roy Evans to the position of Vice President of Sales & Marketing. A thirty-year veteran of the floor covering industry, Evans will be responsible for the company’s entire sales and marketing function and will report directly to company president, Donald M. Scarlata. Evans brings vast experience to his new position, having served in top level sales, marketing and management roles at several major rug manufacturers. Prior to his current position, he served as Executive Director of National Sales for Feizy Import & Export Co., Inc. in Dallas, TX and got his start in the industry as Business Manager at Milliken & Co., La Grange, GA. He also previously held positions at Obeetee, Inc., New York, NY; Pande Cameron & Co. of NY, Inc, in New York City; Rainbow Rugs, Stanford Maine; and Natco Products Corp. in West Warwick, RI. Evans currently resides in North Kingstown, RI. “Roy’s experience and expertise will facilitate our next step in the company’s growth plan,” said Scarlata. “He’s built strong relationships over the years with the top retailers in the industry and we’re looking forward to benefiting from his knowledge and network of contacts.” For Evans, joining cmi offers him an opportunity to help a mid-sized company he's long admired. “I’m excited to join a business with such a solid reputation,” said Evans. “We’ll look to leverage our manufacturing capability, design know-how and ‘made in the USA’ commitment to grow to the next level.” Evans added that he is looking forward to seeing all of cmi’s customers and his friends in the industry at the upcoming High Point Market (Suites at Market Square G-1332). Founded in 1977, cmi is headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the home of Old Slater Mill and the birthplace of our nation’s textile industry. The company has specialized in manufacturing braided-texture area rugs and accessories since its inception. cmi’s philosophy is to be the most innovative in the braided-texture area rug category with the results being new colors, styles, award-winning designs and shapes which most appeal to today’s consumer. These advances continue to demonstrate to consumers that “braided” is simply a construction process and not a style. cmi sells under its own brand name in thousands of specialty retailers and has private label programs and/or customized programs with a number of major national retailers.
