High Point University recently received a gift of light industrial real estate in support of the School of Education from L. Paul Brayton, president of Paul Brayton Designs in High Point and member of the university's Board of Trustees. The property includes one building located at 265 Swathmore Ave. in High Point, with a total space of 76,800 square feet. It was occupied for many years as an industrial facility for Brayton International, an office furniture company. The real estate is valued at $2.3 million. "I consider it an honor to be able to participate in this rebirth of High Point University," says Brayton, whose two daughters, Lisa B. Brayton and Kimberly B. Adcock, are graduates of HPU. "It is the most exciting thing currently going on in the City of High Point." "We deeply appreciate Mr. Brayton’s generous support of High Point University," says Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU. "He and I have been good friends for 35 years, and his support of our efforts means a lot." Brayton, a native of Burlington, Iowa, is on the Board of Directors of the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library. He is the retired director of Steelcase, Inc., the retired president and founder of Brayton International, and the retired president and CEO of Steelcase Design Partnership.
