What your customers do before bed may be causing them to lose valuable hours of sleep. The average person sleeps less than the recommended eight hours, and 16% of adults sleep less than six. Below are helpful tips for the entire family to establish healthy sleeping patterns. Mom & Dad Stress in the number one reason the average person doesn’t sleep enough. Some doctors recommend moderate exercise followed by a warm shower an hour or two before bed. Working out for 20-30 minutes and getting your heart rate up releases feel-good endorphins and can lower anxiety and stress levels. Be careful not to exercise too close to bedtime, though. Essential oils are another way to relax and make it easier to fall asleep. The most common essential oil sleep aid is lavender. Put a couple of drops on your pillow or get one already infused with lavender, like Natura’s Lavender pillow. A lot of people watch TV before bed each night, but that can actually over stimulate your brain and make it harder to fall asleep. Instead, try white noise or nature sounds, such as ocean waves or forest noises. You can buy CDs with soundtracks of these soothing sounds. Kids While babies awake in the night for a variety of reasons, including hunger and the need for a diaper change, they also have trouble with temperature regulation. They may sweat, making their bedding wet and uncomfortable. Made with pure Cry Less™ wool, the Baby Natura puddle pad keeps the mattress fresh and dry without the harmful toxins and chemicals found in many plastic pads. The uniquely woven puddle pad provides a water repellent, yet naturally breathable barrier that discourages the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew. Older kids are a different story though. If you’ve ever seen a teen play a video game, you know there’s nothing relaxing about it. Get your kids to shut down the electronics and do something quiet an hour before bed. Reading with mom or dad, doing a puzzle or just talking can go a long way to getting your child – no matter what his age – ready for sleep. Grandma & Grandpa As people age, the body’s internal clock shifts, making bedtime earlier and earlier. Unlike teens, watching TV or playing a video game can actually help regulate a later bedtime – and a longer, deeper sleep. Aches and pains are also a problem, which can disrupt sleep. An adjustable bed can help seniors sleep in the exact position that is most comfortable. The Naturaflex features a flexible slat suspension which also comes equipped with adjustable tension tabs. By sliding these tabs along the slats, tension in the hip area can be adjusted, bringing extra relief to sensitive areas. Sleep shouldn’t be difficult. And with the proper support and the right tools, a good night’s sleep isn’t far away.
