Malouf Foundation™ Golf Tournament Raises Over $136,000

On Aug. 20, the Malouf Foundation™ hosted over 30 teams at their annual Golf for Freedom tournament in northern Utah, which included local retailers and several of Malouf’s industry partners. The event held at Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield, Utah raised more than $136,000, and every dollar will go toward a restorative care center in Utah for young female survivors of trafficking.

“Golf for Freedom has become a tradition in northern Utah, and we’re always overwhelmed by the community’s support,” said Kacie Malouf, co-founder and board chair of the Malouf Foundation. “This year, all funds will benefit the development of a restorative care facility—spearheaded by our Foundation—that will help trafficking survivors receive a higher level of advocacy and support.”

This past summer, the Malouf Foundation announced their plans to build the first long-term, residential, therapeutic facility in Utah for young female survivors of trafficking (ages 11 to 18). The facility will provide trauma-informed, holistic care on-site—including services like medical care, clinical therapy, education and life skills training, faith support groups and legal assistance.

“This new facility aligns with our focus on healing and justice, and we're proud to offer these services to children,” Malouf said, “Oftentimes a survivor may feel like they have nowhere to go for help. We believe that if survivors have a safe place to go upon escape or rescue, more of them will be empowered to come forward and start the healing process sooner.”

Julie Whitehead, trafficking survivor and Malouf Foundation advisory board member, shared, “As a survivor of human trafficking, it was terribly hard to re-enter society. There are so many issues to work through that require medical and therapeutic interventions, and frankly, it’s expensive. A lot of survivors cannot afford to travel the country and piece their therapy together like I had to.” 

Whitehead added, “I can’t stress enough the importance of aftercare centers that are tailored to trafficking survivors—to have all of the different resources under one roof, a safe place where survivors can live with other survivors who understand things in a way no one else can. If I would have had that, I believe I would be farther along in my healing journey.”

The Malouf Foundation is aiming to build the facility in the Greater Salt Lake area and is currently looking at land opportunities. Renderings of the campus have been created by Malouf’s award-winning interior design team. The initial designs include an administrative wing, transitional housing, independent housing and a community center. The Foundation is working to break ground in 2022.
