April 7, 2025 — On April 2, President Donald Trump announced a new 10% tariff on all goods imported into the United States, regardless of origin. In addition, "reciprocal tariffs" targeting over 60 countries will take effect on April 9. Huppé released a statement announcing that none of its products are affected.
"As a fully Canadian company," said Julie St-Arnaud, Huppé's President & Business development director, "Huppé complies with the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA / ACEUM), and remains fully exempt from all these new tariffs. The U.S. administration has confirmed that goods meeting USMCA requirements will continue to enjoy a 0% tariff rate, unlike non-compliant or non-member country imports.
“Our furniture is handcrafted in Quebec using wood sourced directly from the United States. That collaboration is at the heart of who we are. Now more than ever, our North American model proves to be the right choice.
"For over 50 years, Huppé has built strong relationships with American retailers, and this evolving trade environment further reinforces its role as a reliable, transparent, and strategic partner in the modern furniture industry.
"But Huppé is not alone. Other Canadian manufacturers who meet USMCA requirements are also exempt from the new tariffs, positioning the Canadian sector as a strong, competitive, and dependable alternative at a time when many international suppliers will face major increases in export costs.
"With High Point Market just a few weeks away, we’re looking forward to reconnecting with our valued partners and meeting new ones. In this time of transition for the industry, many retailers will be reassessing their supply strategies. At Huppé, we’re ready to offer a stable, transparent, and proudly North American alternative—one rooted in craftsmanship, collaboration, and long-term vision.
“For us, being North American," she concluded, "is more than geography—it’s a shared commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and trust.”
