Hooker Furniture to Show 40 New Melange Pieces at Fall 2018 High Point Market

Furniture World News Desk on 9/13/2018

Hooker Furniture recently announced that it will continue its emphasis on growing its Melange collection at the Fall High Point Market. The eclectic collection of artistic accent pieces blends colors, textures and materials to create a vibrant assortment of designs, inspired by four of today’s popular micro trends, including Understated Glam, Bohemian Luxe, Natural Contemporary and New Retro.

“Through our travels across the globe, we have curated an assortment of design-driven accent pieces with a variety of unique materials, textures and hues that come together to create four undeniable moods,” said Liz Adkins, merchandising product manager for Hooker Furniture. “We wanted to build off of the success of our new merchandising approach for Melange at the recent April Market by again presenting the collection within popular micro trends in our showroom.

“These moods – or stories – truly come to life through our creative merchandising displays that not only demonstrate the micro trends in an interior design setting, but also put a spotlight on each new piece in an impactful and dramatic way,” she continued.

Inspired by Paris, India and beyond, Understated Glam is refined and sophisticated with high sheen finishes on transitional forms with pops of bright color and metallic accents. Contrasting color combinations of black and gold and white and gold add drama, while high sheen natural and black lacquers intermingle with a variety of metallic and acrylic accents for high-end, classic styling. Highlights include the Natia Spot Table with a thick acrylic top that is cradled by a textured cast aluminum gold leaf base and the Don’t Leaf Me Bar Cabinet, which is characterized by an oversized brass-tone leaf motif centrally positioned against two high sheen black lacquer doors.

A predominant theme spotted at the MAISON&OBJET trade show in Paris, Bohemian Luxe carries an authentic vibe characterized by world travel and collected items that are full of life and culture. Pieces curated in this micro trend fully embrace a carefree, relaxed and eclectic lifestyle. Highlights include the Rosella Console which is characterized by its unique hand painted lace motif on the back of its three antique glass doors and the Tassiana Hall Console which is presented in a medium tone wood finish contrasted with a smoked indigo graphic overlay, reminiscent of a hand-crocheted textile. In addition, the Montgomery Bar Cabinet features a geometric bone inlay which boldly contrasts against the rich black doors of the contemporary silhouette. Sitting tall on a hand hammered blackened nickel base, it features a white lacquer interior for added drama and interest.

Building off the Belgian Chic micro trend presented last spring, Natural Contemporary is inspired by the lifestyle trend of Wabi Sabi – the art of living with imperfection. Pieces in this category are designed with intensely rustic finishes, unique materials and interesting textures, all of which combine to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Finishes, materials and key design elements include deep wood tones, rustic neutrals, end grain veneer treatments, metal inlays, textured metals and exaggerated scaling. The Kinston Three-Drawer Chest features brass-tone geometric inlays against end-grain veneer drawer fronts in a deep chocolate finish, adding movement and unique dimension to the piece, while the Brennon Two-Door Accent Chest features end grain veneer door fronts in a natural finish with cast aluminum twig-inspired hardware. The dramatically scaled 90-inch tall Foster Door Cabinet features a thick step molding frame in a white washed oak finish with oil rubbed bronze hardware. The multifunctional piece works well as a dining room, living room or bedroom storage piece.

A fresh take on Mid-century modern styling, the New Retro trend is characterized by modern silhouettes paired with both geometric and organic forms in rich wood tones, accented with a variety of brass details. Unexpected pops of color and an assortment of materials come together to create an updated take on this iconic style period from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s. The Alba Accent Table features an unexpected blue top and an organic blue-hued pattern on the table base, while the Triad Accent Mirror – a new category for the Melange collection – features a series of three vertical diamond-shaped mirrors surrounded by gilded champagne-tone decorative frames.
