Ashley Furniture recently announced that, in October, it hosted several onsite events in celebration of National Manufacturing Month. Ashley’s Arcadia facility in Wisconsin, hosted more than 350 sixth grade students from Arcadia, Arcadia Holy Family, Blair-Taylor, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Independence, Independence St. Peter and Paul, and Whitehall School Districts. The students toured the facility and participated in a manufacturing-based activity to learn about teamwork and communication.

“At Ashley, we are passionate about providing educational opportunities to today’s youth to encourage and prepare them to be the workforce of tomorrow,” said Todd Wanek, President and CEO of Ashley Furniture Industries. “National Manufacturing Month is an incredible opportunity that allows us to showcase career opportunities within advanced manufacturing and their benefits to our economy.”

National Manufacturing Day, originated by the National Association of Manufacturers, is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Manufacturing Day addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t.

Manufacturing day activities at Ashley Furniture are great extensions of out-of-the-classroom curriculum and a vital learning curve for students in today's fast paced, technology driven world,” said Jessica Neitzel, Whitehall sixth grade teacher. “This event offers an inside look at some of the fastest growing, most in demand jobs of our time.”

Ashley has developed a number of partnerships with K-12 as well as post-secondary schools over the past five years. Combined efforts have included investing in STEM-based learning opportunities, scholarships, providing students with exposure to technical trades and career opportunities, instructor training, and robotics programs. As manufacturing continues to advance and the global economy evolves, training and educating our current and future workforce will be a crucial part of our country’s success.
