Organicpedic By OMI Complies With California’s New Flame Retardant Tag Law

Furniture World News Desk on 10/27/2014

OrganicPedic™ by OMI said it has voluntarily chosen to label its mattresses according to California’s Senate Bill 1019, a new regulation which requires manufacturers to identify and label upholstered furniture that contains added flame retardant chemicals, becoming the first mattress producer to do so. OrganicPedic’s FR solution is attained through the use of certified organic wool and unique construction methods.

“OrganicPedic has always been at the forefront of full transparency to the consumer and educating them about what is actually inside their mattresses from a toxicity and chemical standpoint. We think there is an alternative to boric acid fire retardants and feel an obligation to help consumers, retailers and retail sales people be aware and informed. If retail sales people do nothing more than search Wikipedia for the toxicology of “boric acid,” we feel like we have done a public service. We are hopeful that other producers will follow suit and support this important initiative,” said OrganicPedic Chief Executive Officer Kurt Ling.

Established on the principle that a consumer should always have the right to choose a mattress that is better for their body and be fully informed regarding the materials used in their mattress, OMI has become the nation’s number one manufacturer of organic mattresses under the OrganicPedic brand name. Since its inception, the company has helped retailers and consumers become better educated about the health benefits of living without toxic chemicals in furniture and bedding. OrganicPedic mattresses, crib mattresses, toppers, pillows and top of bed are made with organic cotton, organic wool, organic and all natural latex without any synthetic components.
