Bob’s Discount Furniture Donates $56,000 to Food Banks Across the Region

Furniture World News Desk on 11/16/2014

With the holiday season approaching and many people struggling to simply feed their families, Bob’s Discount Furniture announced that it is taking steps to help those most in need by donating a total of $56,000 to 56 local food banks and hunger-relief programs across the northeast and mid-Atlantic States.

Bob’s supports a wide range of children’s and social service organizations through its Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation, but wanted to do something more to support all of the communities where it operates. So it decided to make additional $1,000 donations to local hunger-relief programs – one in each of those markets.

“As we get closer to the holidays, our thoughts naturally turn to those who are less fortunate, and to the food banks that play such a vital role in our communities,” says Bob Kaufman, president emeritus and co-founder of Bob’s Discount Furniture. “So many people are in need of the bare essentials, supporting our local food banks helps with those basic needs.”

Feeding America, a network of 58,000 food banks, estimates that more than 46 million people rely on their food pantries and meal service programs each year. As such, a $1,000 donation can make a big difference by providing 1,200 to 2,000 meals, depending on the location of the food bank.

“This donation was a welcome surprise and a blessing as we prepared to assist the families that rely on us,” said Greg Wilson, director of development at Bellevue Community Center in Wilmington, Del. “We're hoping that Bob's generous gift will inspire community members to pitch in and make a difference this Thanksgiving season by giving to Bellevue’s inaugural Thanksgiving Basket food drive.”
