SILLA Introduces Pine Chair as Second Public Release

Furniture World News Desk on 5/27/2025

SILLA, the Marfa-based fabrication and design studio led by designer Joey Benton, has released the Pine Chair, its second publicly available furniture piece since the studio was founded in 1997. Created by a small team of makers in Marfa, the chair reflects SILLA’s ongoing focus on craft and material integrity.

The Pine Chair is constructed using Douglas fir nails and plantation-grown radiata pine. It is available exclusively through SILLA’s website and is priced at $450. Sized for use as a dining or side chair, the Pine Chair measures 33 inches in length, 18 inches in width, and 21.5 inches in height.

“The Pine Chair is calming and homey, with tradition, craft and place specific to the individual memory. It is so tangible you can smell it, practically taste it, just as a thought,” said Benton. “To make a new pine chair is to be directly in this lineage; the knowns are all part of the present moment, and yet it must be original and of itself. It sits as a modest representation of the forest.”

SILLA’s work has historically centered on site-specific commissions and private clients including Liz Lambert, Hotel Saint George, and Big Bend National Park. The studio’s design process emphasizes a response to place—considering light, texture, and atmosphere to guide the form and function of each piece.

The Pine Chair’s public release represents an extension of that approach. As with SILLA’s previous objects, the chair is designed to be both functional and quietly expressive, with attention to detail intended to be felt more than seen.

Additional chair designs and objects are expected to be released by SILLA throughout the year. For product details, shipping information, and past projects, visit sillamarfa.com. Updates on future releases can also be found by following @sillamarfa on Instagram.
