Norse Interiors announced a new product line, called the ‘DIY Finish’, which lets customers paint the furniture components, used to upgrade IKEA cabinets, in any color they like. All the components are prepped and primed to make it as easy as possible for customers to add a finish that matches their personal style and surrounding. In addition to the seven colors Norse is already offering, the ‘DIY Finish’ will be available on the 19th of July.

The recently launched New York-based startup, Norse Interiors helps customers to retrofit their IKEA Besta cabinets and TV stands for individualized furniture that is one-of-a-kind, sustainable, and affordable. They are influenced by their Scandinavian roots, with clean lines and simple designs, which are easy to integrate into any room.

“I got the idea when I was decorating the office at a startup I was working at. I had a tight budget, so I turned to IKEA, as I often do, but I wished there were more options which would fit the company’s brand better. That’s when I realized that there might be a market for making replacement pieces to upgrade IKEA’s furniture", said Lotta Lundaas, CEO of Norse Interiors.

With Norse components, it's possible to make 1000+ different cabinets. Lundaas continues: "Custom furniture usually takes months to produce, and you need intimate knowledge of the design field that only seasoned experts would have. With Norse, you can find what you like online and get it delivered to your doorstep at a reasonable price." For larger projects, they're also able to produce customized patterns and colors. In addition to the cabinets, Norse Interiors offers knobs/pulls and furniture legs that customers can mix and match with different designs and styles for endless combinations.

Norse Interiors wants to increase the furniture’s lifespan by allowing customers to use the IKEA cabinet, which they either already have at home or they can purchase the cabinet frame without doors, and pair it with a durable cabinet door to achieve a zero-waste upgrade, and avoid throwing out old unwanted pieces. Each year, Americans dispose of almost 12 million tons of furniture, which is about five (5) percent of the country’s total garbage. By enabling customers to design a piece of furniture precisely to their personal aesthetics, it will be a piece that they’ll cherish. As a result, this will naturally extend the lifespan of the furniture and Norse’s upcycling initiative helps reduce waste.

Upcycling has gained more momentum and is an emerging trend within a more eco-conscious generation. Norse’s emphasis on sustainability is also seen in their SFI, Sustainable Forestry Initiative, which assures that their materials come from responsible sources and are compliant with sustainable forestry standards. With local manufacturing in New Jersey, there is no unnecessary environmental footprint, unlike other products that travel halfway around the world to the customer’s door.
