First Malouf Foundation Golf Event Raises Over $55,000

Furniture World News Desk on 9/7/2018

The Malouf Foundation, the non-profit arm of Utah-based bedding accessories maker Malouf, recently held its first benefit golf tournament on August 23 which raised more than $55,000 for its primary cause. These funds will directly help rescue children enslaved in sex trafficking and assist in creating a life for themselves after the rescue. Eighteen teams from California, Colorado, Washington and Utah gathered at the Logan Country Club for the charity tournament.

“This is the first time we’ve organized a golf event and it was exciting to see our team come together to create the Golf for Freedom tournament; every effort matters and makes a difference,” said Malouf CEO, Sam Malouf. “It is truly an honor to have so many selfless partners and friends who came out to support. We couldn’t have asked for a better event.”

One of the most exciting events of the day happened when Mike Wingard, who traveled from Seattle, Wash. representing Key Bank, hit a rare hole-in-one; a shot that offered large dividends. Malouf Foundation partnered with Heritage Auto, a dealership based in Logan, to offer the chance to win a brand-new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon worth $45,000. To top it off, the par three hole also included a $10,000 cash prize offered by another event partner. Wingard’s hole-in-one earned him the keys to the Jeep and the cash prize.

Wingard, who has been on the board for a boy’s home in Washington for the past 10 years, knows the good that can be done through the financial support of a worthy cause. Consequently, he donated his $10,000 prize to the Malouf Foundation.

“It was an unbelievable day and I’m glad so much excitement was generated. Frankly, it got a little surreal after the big shot, but everyone was terrific,” Wingard said. “I’m a huge believer of the Malouf Foundation and its cause. I’m a big proponent of helping kids.”

The Malouf Foundation hosts several events each year to help raise money and awareness for its causes and charity partners. In October the foundation will host its annual benefit art auction and dinner to raise money to support victims of domestic violence. And a biannual Forging Freedom event held every January and July in Las Vegas benefits survivors of sex trafficking.
