The couture furniture design firm Cliff Young announced that it will arrive at the Spring 2019 High Point Market, April 6th-10th. The legacy brand anchored by American-made custom furniture will debut an award-winning signature collection that combines the finest of its design traditions with an outpouring of creativity and refinement in recent years.
The 36-piece collection for living, dining, bedroom, and rugs has all of Cliff Young’s hallmarks: modern day sophistication with old-world warmth and craftsmanship; incredible woods, superlative finishes, seamless joinery; and everything customizable.
Says Cliff Young President, Leslie Young Zarra, “There’s been so much innovation in the collection, we felt like this is the perfect time to bring it all to High Point — including three big new reveals.”
Added to the core collection this year is a collaboration with HearthCabinet, the cutting-edge ventless fireplace innovators, as well as a few value-engineered, quick-ship versions of their signature furnishings, including a complete bedroom collection. “It’s a super-exciting proposition for stores who don’t have a lot of options for furniture of our artisan-crafted look and quality,” Zarra says of the new value-engineered products. “And we now have the capacity, capability, and the enthusiasm to make it happen.”
Cliff Young’s signature style has garnered numerous Best of Year Awards from Interior Design magazine; has been honored four consecutive years by NYC&G’s Innovation in Design Awards; winner of NYCxDESIGN Innovative Product Design Award in 2014; and winner of Platinum Adex Award in 2016.
At High Point, among the notable signature pieces for living are the Beverly, a modern console in whose stained walnut zigzag motif, and the Boxeo desk, a classic of functional art combining wood draw modules and simple geometric polished steel legs.
One of the featured pieces for dining is the Cubisto, an Art Deco-inspired dining table with bold angles self-storing extension leaves and finished in dark ribbon sapele. The signature bedroom collections will include the Cassidy bed, a model of simple modern design with a stylishly upholstered medium-high headboard and a raised platform in dark cerused ash.
Cliff Young’s featured rugs are a select grouping from the firm’s Signature Rug Collection – all designed in-house and handwoven using intricate weaving techniques by a small, family-owned rug manufacturer in Nepal. The stunningly resilient rugs are created with raw wool and silk, hand-knotted and tied over an iron rod to achieve complex patterns, and the utmost durability. “Great rooms often start with great rugs and one of my favorite aspects of design projects is the joy we’re able to bring to our clients through this truly personalized experience” says Zarra on the customization capabilities. The rug designs are typically colorful, abstract, inspired by art or nature, and always customizable.
Cliff Young has created luxurious furniture surrounds with HearthCabinet’s cutting-edge ventless fireplaces – a collaboration that truly showcases
versatility and innovation. Zarra expects both designs to be among the showstoppers at High Point. Of the two, the Luca Fireplace, an elegant cleat hung cabinet made in a grey ash veneer with horizontal graining, four large drawers in a maple firesafe material on soft-close slides and a flawless slate-grey stone top.
The second in the collaboration, the Faceted Fireplace, takes a sharper turn toward fashion-forward, with a geometric surround of polished stainless steel. Both have the practical appeal of being self-contained and safely fueled by clean-burning single-use alcohol gel cartridges (i.e. there’s no smoke!)
About Cliff Young: Cliff Young is a legacy firm originally started by Leslie’s father, Alberto Azzolina, in 1968. He was a musician and self-taught designer who first entered the industry as a furniture store salesman before opening his own design firm and growing it into a destination for designers to explore contemporary furniture while integrating personal and custom ideas into their work. In 1995, The Greater New York Home Furnishing Association named Cliff Young The Furniture Man of The Year.
His is a living legacy because of the strong focused leadership of Leslie Zarra, who joined the firm in 1988 and later moved it into its current 8,000 square-foot showroom in the New York Design Center while keeping the brand current and relevant with new designs and collaborations, as well as adapting in the digital age.
At High Point Market, Cliff Young Will Be Located at the Suites at Market Square, G-6047 (Ground Level).
