Ensven modules are low profile, making it easy to place your bed on them.
Ensven recently announced that it is introducing a smart, modular bed rocker which transforms a good old bed into an intelligent rocking bed. Ensven modules are placed under the legs of a bed in a few minutes. The units collectively move the bed side to side. According to Lisa Viani, a co-founder of the start-up company, “this stimulates the vestibular system in the inner ear, promoting recuperative deep sleep”. Deep sleep is crucial for physical and mental regeneration and declarative memory consolidation, e.g. learning languages, facts, math, etc.
Viani further says that “Ensven helps with falling asleep and staying asleep. In addition to continuous/timed rocking modes, Ensven can intelligently promote good sleep. Physical movement during sleep is correlated with shallow sleep phases - poor sleep - while recuperative deep sleep is linked to complete stillness. Ensven can sense restlessness and counteract it by switching itself on to rock the restless sleeper back into deeper sleep stages.”
Animal and limited experiments with humans have shown that a lack of sleep has very negative effects on physical health and mental ability. Even short changing yourself of “only” one hour of sleep for “only” a few days significantly reduces the strength of your immune system, physical recuperation, ability to learn and mental performance. Just one night of shortened sleep can lead to a near diabetic state of the body. Continued total sleep deprivation is actually fatal.
Insomnia in its varying degrees of severity is caused by a number of factors. According to a survey by the National Sleep Foundation, 43% of Americans rarely or never get a good night’s sleep on weeknights. 60% experience some sort of sleep problem every or almost every night.
Mothers have been rocking babies to sleep in their arms since the dawn of humanity. People have been enjoying sleeping in swaying hammocks for almost as long. It is common knowledge that gentle side to side motion helps many people sleep better. Recent scientific studies back this up. In experiments inside a sleep laboratory human subjects fell asleep faster when sleeping on a bed that was rocked from side to side at 0.25 Hz (once every 4 seconds). They also stayed longer in the most recuperative deep (NREM 3) sleep stage which features no eye movement, low frequency brain waves, the most relaxed muscle tone as well as the slowest heartbeat of the night. Human subjects performed learning tasks after their sleep. Those who were rocked during sleep performed significantly better than those who were not.
