Selig sofa

Post New Topic

I have a Selig Monroe sofa purchased in 1980 that I maybe selling. In Googling, it seems there is an interest in contemporary furniture from that era. Does anyone have an idea of value? Thank you.

I have the Selig Conversation Pit (8 pieces) in somewhat good condition. It is covered in the cream Hatian Cotton. Planning to change the look of the front room and would like to sell it. Pictures available. Located in Delta, BC.

We have a Selig Monroe sectional sofa, two corner pieces & two armless, in the brown Bolivar (velour), purchased in the early to mid 1980's at $1000. I have been trying to locate replacement back pillow/cushions with no luck yet. The corner back cushions look difficult to duplicate. This sofa was in storage for many years and no back cushions to get a pattern from. We loved this sofa for its versatile arrangements and comfort for napping.

I have this couch and bought it from Macy's and am replacing it. The original couch in stock used Haitian cotton in off-while and the 3 corners and 2 armless together cost $2,500-$3,000.
With the custom velvet fabric the cost was around $5,000.

I have a Selig Monroe "rocking" sofa tufted back with 2 seat cushions, dark green, blue & gold tweed fabric. Not sure if the frame is teak or walnut? the back legs can fold up so the entire sofa rocks like a rocking chair, very unusual. We are moving and would like to sell it. What is the value today? and best place to try to sell it, ebay, craigslist? Would gladly send photos. Thank you!

In regards to the Selig Monroe Sofa, you would have to send me a picture of the sofa to give you a guestimate:robtwmark@verizon.net

Monroe was a location of one of their factories and a division of Selig. It made the less expensive portion of the line.

In regards to the person with the 8 sections:
You most likely have what was called a conversation pit which was modular furniture. Selig called your velvet facbric Bolivar. That same fabric will not be available today but there are many other velvets to choose from. However the original cost of your modular pieces could never have been $25,000, or even $3500. That is far too high. Selig knocked off this design from the Italians and made it very popular here in the US. It consisted of a corner piece, an armless piece and an ottoman. You could do all kinds of creative arrangements with it. It was originally made in leather in Italy.

Depends which couch you have. I have the one that is upholstered with fabric that looks like a heavyweight velour. there are 8 sections that are low, square, all-upholstery pieces with very deep seats. it was purchased in the mid-1980s and it is my understanding that the cost new for this particular sectional was around $25,000.00 The name on the couch is Selig-Monroe which apparently is out of business. Do you happen to know the name of the fabric as I received this couch used and would like to reupholster it. thanks.
