Pankaj Sanghai, founder and principal of Pixel by Pixel, announced highly successful results of a custom application his company built for Steven Anthony, Inc., a manufacturer of classic modern furniture.
The application has resulted in a 35% increase in sales and a 33% decrease in average production time. These results have been tracked to improved production alone. No external marketing has been involved.
“The furniture industry tends to be traditional. Customers like to know goods are hand-crafted by family operations,” explains Sanghai, “But increasing competition and a recovering economy provide an opportunity to use technology creatively, improving efficiency and customer service.”
Steven Anthony, Inc., employs just 20 people at a downtown L.A. studio. Their clientele of Hollywood stars and execs has formerly yielded high ticket sales, but not a high order volume. Owner Steven Anthony says the new software application has allowed him to operate more quickly and efficiently, increasing his capacity for orders and his profitability.
Sanghai describes how the application’s features work together. Order forms are pre-populated with information from product databases. By determining what fabric and parts are needed to complete each piece in an order, and by recalling supplier information, associates can order anything that is not in stock, and have it ready for production.
The databases and completed order form feed information into a series of other features. For example, a customer’s order can be broken down into individual work orders for each item involved. This leads to better oversight of production. An invoice can be generated and sent to the customer. Law labels can also be generated according to contents in the database. Furthermore, staff can run reports to determine which items are the most popular and cost-effective, and therefore the most profitable.
“Pixel by Pixel gave us an invaluable tool,” says Anthony, “Our average production time has been cut from six weeks to four. Our satisfied customers are ordering more, and we’re fully capable of handling the increased demand.”
Sanghai and his team see the current platform as just the beginning. “We’re anxious to get this on the Internet, so that customers can fill in their own order forms and track their order in production,” he says. “We’d also like to add a barcoding system for inventory and production. There’s no limit to how a scalable, user-friendly application like this can eliminate production problems and help a company like Steven’s focus solely on building furniture.”
