New Book "The New Southwest Home" by Debra May Himes, ASID, IIDA
Furniture World News
Interior design work of the Valley’s own award-winning interior designer Debra May Himes, ASID, IIDA, is featured in “The New Southwest Home,” a high-profile book by publishing giant Northland Publishing that was released August 2005. The book is the first of its kind to focus on the Southwest’s mix of evolving architectural styles that borrow elements from other genres to establish an interesting and truly unique design flavor in this region of the United States.
Himes’ design work was reviewed and chosen by the book’s author Suzanne Pickett Martinson for various chapters. Although Himes is known for combining mediums not often paired together, all of her work featured in this book shows her mastery of the Spanish colonial style. Design elements Himes utilizes give each room a rich texture and flavor that linger with readers long after they flip the pages. This hard cover, coffee table-style book is packed with top-of-the-line interior photography and detailed explanations of design elements, providing a room-by-room tour of homes, and placing an emphasis on innovation and Southwest tradition.
“I’m honored to have been chosen from a pool of so many other highly accomplished interior designers. Having my custom home projects featured in this book feels similar to winning a design award—it’s just thrilling,” says Himes. “The publishing process has been a very exciting and rewarding experience for me.”
“The New Southwest Home” will be available nationwide through bookstores and retail stores as well as amazon.com.
