Sleep Country USA, the Northwest’s largest seller of premium mattresses, announced the grand opening of its new store in downtown Portland, Oregon. Sleep Country USA is welcoming the community to celebrate its new presence with a special “Princess and the Pea” event that offers participants a chance to win a $1,000 Sleep Country USA gift certificate. On Thursday, June 22, 2006, beginning at 10:00 a.m., Sleep Country USA will bring its magical event to the Spalding Building, located at 319 S.W. Washington, inviting community members to visit the Sleep Country store to guess which mattress on the showroom floor is hiding a “pea.” Customers will have until 9:00 p.m. to submit their entry for a chance to win a $1,000 Sleep Country USA gift certificate and be crowned the Prince or Princess of the land. The event will also feature on-site radio promotion by KFIS – 104.1 The Fish, who will be giving away free t-shirts, CDs and books to lucky participants. Sleep Country USA’s “Princess and the Pea” event is based on the original story by Hans Christian Andersen in which a prince attempts to determine if a late night visitor to his castle is a true princess by placing a pea under the 20 mattresses she sleeps upon.
