University Loft has hired hired a new VP to manage the college and university portions of the furnishings market as well as their highly successful military and hospitality divisions. Larry Powell will take his official title, Vice President of Sales – College, Military and Hospitality Division, on March 26, 2007. He will manage all operations of these markets and report directly to James Jannetides, President and CEO of University Loft Company. “I know with Larry’s extensive background in the furnishings market, he will be able to keep ULC at the top of its game in the contract, military and hospitality markets,” noted Jannetides. Powell brings more than 20 years of experience in the furniture industry, and most recently held the position of Director of International Sales and Market Development at Hickory Springs Manufacturing Corp. in Hickory, NC. He was employed with Hickory Springs for 13 years. In his spare time, Powell enjoys spending time with his wife, Miriam, and his children Paul, 22, and Lauren, 19. Along with outdoor hobbies, Powell loves traveling and has visited over 30 countries. University Loft Company was founded in 1986 by James Jannetides while attending Southern Illinois University. James built a loft for his room to maximize space in his typically small dorm room. Other students admired his loft system, and that summer James invested his savings in enough wood to build 400 loft units. Upon returning to school, these high-demand lofts were sold to fellow students and that’s where ULC was born. Today, ULC manages more than 1,200 university accounts per year, including the elite Yale University and John Hopkins University. University Loft Company is considered a leader in the government sector and retail division, as well. Committed to providing a superior product with an unmatched service level, University Loft Company is the leader in the contract furniture industry.
