Mattress Firm Acquires 16-Store American Mattress

Mattress Firm, one of the nation’s leading mattress retailers, announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent to acquire the current leases of 16 Houston-area American Mattress locations. Terms of the deal, which is currently in the due diligence phase, were not disclosed. The planned acquisition of American Mattress will further solidify Mattress Firm’s leadership position in its hometown of Houston, increasing its store count there to more than 50 locations and bringing the company’s total store count to more than 390 stores in 33 markets across 20 states. “This lease acquisition of American Mattress is yet another step in our overall expansion strategy and underscores our commitment to grow both organically and through acquisitions,” said Gary Fazio, CEO of Mattress Firm. “We look forward to expanding our presence in our hometown of Houston and bringing our unique retail experience, sleep expertise and the broadest selection of products and brands in the mattress industry to even more consumers throughout the area.” Upon completion of the acquisition, the 16 American Mattress locations will be re-branded as Mattress Firm stores and adopt its expanded product selection, including brands from the nation’s top manufacturers, signature store format and Red Carpet delivery service over the coming months.
