Five Furniture Stores Are Target Of Credit Card Scam

The website hfxnews.ca reported that credit card scammers targeted at least five furniture stores in Halifax with the following scheme: "A man calls a store to order furniture, saying he isn't able to make it to the store in person. He told one store the furniture was a gift for a bride-to-be. He told another he was in Truro, at a chiropractor's office. "Using a stolen credit-card number, the man orders thousands of dollars' worth of furniture. The charge goes through, so the business doesn't think anything is awry. "A legitimate moving company then comes to pick up the furniture. When they get to the drop-off location, they find it's just a parking lot. There, some people load the furniture onto their own truck and drive off. "Afterwards, even if the credit-card charge is cancelled, the store is unable to retrieve its furniture."
