The Metropolitan Furnishings Association announced that their Sixty Seventh Annual Sports Day Outing, Dinner and Auction, Monday June 16th at the Knoll Country Clup in Lake Hiawatha, NJ, will be held this year in conjunction with The Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation (DMCCF). The DMCCF is a non- profit organization, which raises money to help families with the financial burdens that often accompany a long term illness, to assist with the high costs of health care for cancer victims, and for cancer research. The DMCCF was named for West Orange New Jersey resident, Dean Michael Clarizio who lost his battle with cancer in June 2005. Dean, a life- long resident of West Orange, graduated from West Orange High School in 1989. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2004, he became active in reaching out to other cancer patients in need of emotional support. Along with his brothers and close friends, Dean decided to start the foundation, because he wanted to provide emotional and financial help to others who face the challenges of cancer. Dean's wishes were for his family and friends to continue helping as many people as possible in their fight against cancer. Although he died one month before the foundation's first dinner, his family and friends have continued to raise money for the non-profit cause. Dean Clarizio's brother, Chris Clarizio, is a Klaussner Home Furnishings Sales Representative and the president of the foundation. In the past two years the Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation has awarded four, two thousand dollar scholarships to West Orange High School seniors who plan to further their education after graduation. The recipients of this scholarship must be students in good academic standing who have enrolled in an institute of higher learning. The applicants must have either had cancer themselves or have had a close family member contract the disease. The Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation is operated by volunteers and is funded with donations by generous people such as you, who enable it to continue its mission to provide assistance without distinction for race, color, religion, age, or national origin. We would love it if you were a part of Dean's Team too!
