POLYWOOD Recognizes Earth Day’s 50th Anniversary

Furniture World News Desk on 4/17/2020

April 22 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day — a day that’s intertwined with POLYWOOD’s mission to improve the planet by turning one million pounds of ocean-bound plastic into furniture by 2021. POLYWOOD announced that it is encouraging others to join in the fight by encouraging its customers to take an active role in protecting the planet.

“Understandably, the focus lately hasn’t been so much on the health of the planet — but instead, on the health of the people who inhabit it,” said Brady Maller, EVP of Strategy and Sales at POLYWOOD. “However, just like we’re figuring out with the current virus, everyone can make a difference. Educating others, picking up trash, recycling, planting more greenery, using fewer products around the house — all of these actions can make a meaningful difference if we engage in them together.”

Per the Earth Day site, the theme for the 50th anniversary is climate action. Climate change has been recognized as the most pressing topic and concern, underscoring many other issues plaguing the world today. The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement and is now recognized as the planet’s largest civic event, in which POLYWOOD is honored to take part.

In addition to encouraging Earth-friendly acts, POLYWOOD is conducting an Earth Day sales promotion in acknowledgment of this global initiative, as well as continuing its promotion of ocean-bound plastics recycling throughout 2020. POLYWOOD remains committed to recycling one million pounds of ocean-bound plastic into its furniture line by 2021.

Reinforcing their commitment to what Earth Day represents, Doug Rassi, CEO and Co-Founder of POLYWOOD had this to say, “POLYWOOD was born from a sustainability movement during the Keep America Beautiful era. Stewardship was in our collective consciousness. It motivated us to start our company and is embedded in our culture. The thoughts and activities around sustainability today aren’t something we added recently as it became popular. It has been part of our purpose from the start.”
