As consumers continually seek sustainably-made products that are made to last, wool has become an attractive alternative to synthetic fiber fills among bedding manufacturers of mattresses and other sleep products such as pillows and comforters.
In response to the increased consumer demand for natural, renewable and traceable materials, UK-based H Dawson leveraged its 130-year expertise in the wool industry to develop a unique, value-added range of organic and natural fibers that communicates a sustainable story from the farm all the way to the consumer.
While valuing wool’s outstanding inherent qualities such as temperature regulation, moisture and anti-bacterial management among many others, H Dawson wanted to take its wool fiber offering to a higher standard to help consumers rest easier at night. For instance, its organic wool fiber carries the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.
Taking wool sourcing to a new level, H Dawson established The Woolkeepers® - its proprietary quality assurance platform which provides a complete solution to meet the growing demand among brands, retailers and consumers for natural fibres and traceability. The Woolkeepers® community, which includes over 1000 farmers and growing, supports responsible farming, animal welfare, paying a fair price for wool, and nurtures a group of growers on the journey of regenerative agriculture.
“Understanding that wool bedding helps you sleep better, we’ve had tremendous success with our H Dawson fibers in the British luxury bedding market for years with brands like Hypnos, the award-winning makers of handcrafted, sustainable mattresses honored with a Royal warrant,” said Gary Lucier, Director Sales North America, H Dawson. “Since introducing our traceable wool program to the North American market a bit earlier this year, we’ve received a great reaction particularly among mattress brands.”
According to Lucier, who attended High Point Market in October, the interiors market continues to boom and consumer interest in natural fibers is increasing.
“The mattress brands we spoke to at the show are excited about our heritage, traceable supply chain and GOTS-certified fiber offering,” said Lucier.
