As part of an ongoing effort by Gail Doby Coaching & Consulting to support its community of interior designers, the company has developed a survey called the 2022 Interior Designers Survey on Fees, Salaries and Competing for Talent. It is tailored to help the business consultancy’s clients understand the current state of the industry and the challenges they face, as attitudes about the workforce have shifted.
Creating lasting workforce satisfaction and retention is critical for today’s interior design firms. Similar to other industries, designers are struggling not only with fees, but also with salaries as well as recruiting and maintaining talent.
“Our goal with this survey is to glean information that will help us guide our clients through a changing landscape in the interior design world,” said Gail Doby, chief vision officer of Gail Doby Coaching & Consulting. “The questions in the survey are strategically developed so we can use the information to improve different areas of an interior design business. This is an industry-wide initiative, and we strongly encourage designers to participate.”
For today’s firms, salaries and fees are a large part of the equation, but as the country comes out of the pandemic and fears of a recession loom, decisions also need to be made regarding freight costs, fully remote teams, hybrid models and flexible work hours to assure highly diverse teams and cultures.
“The survey will allow us to efficiently collect honest feedback, opinions and responses so we can use that information to help improve different areas of an interior design business,” added Erin Weir, co-founder and vice president of Gail Doby Coaching & Consulting. “Owners in particular, will directly benefit from their participation because the results will allow them to gain insights for benchmarking their businesses.”
The 40-question survey takes approximately eight-to-ten minutes to complete. All responses will be anonymous and confidential. The survey can be found at https://gaildoby.com/ids2022-tmm.
To thank respondents for their input, the coaching and consulting firm will provide a complimentary copy of the results in advance of general distribution. In addition, all participants will be entered into drawings for prizes throughout the duration of the data collection period. The deadline to complete the survey is July 31, 2022.
