Family-owned Wickmans Furniture going out of business and liquidating

Furniture World News Desk on 2/22/2023

Wickmans Furniture is going out of business after serving Los Angeles, the San Fernando and Conejo valleys, and surrounding communities since 1956. Furniture industry veteran Bernie Wickman, co-owner with his wife, Maxwell Wickman, announced his retirement after 67 years in the furniture retail business.

Beginning February 23, Wickmans will liquidate its entire inventory at 28448 Roadside Dr. in Agoura Hills (Kanan and Ocean Side of Highway 101). The 35,000-square-foot showroom offers an impressive and eclectic selection of furniture and accessories, including unique pieces and rare finds.

The storewide closeout event will feature drastically reduced prices on famous top-end brands, including AICO by Michael Amini, Ashley, Best Chair, Alpine, ART, Jonathan Louis, Howard Miller, John Michaels, Southern Motion, Bedding Industries of America, Flores, Parker House, New Classic, Modus, Homelegance, Classic Home, and Dovetail, among others.

“It has been an incredible run, and we would like to thank our wonderful customers for their loyalty and support through our many decades helping to furnish homes in the Southland,” said the Wickmans. “The furniture business is all about creating a lifestyle for people. It’s been a joy to provide beautiful furniture at affordable prices so more people can live the American dream."

Bernie Wickman came to Los Angeles from the East Coast at the age of 16. After serving in the Army and the Korean War, he opened his first furniture retail store in 1956 in downtown L.A. at 3rd and Broadway. Thus began an iconic career in the furniture industry. Just four years later, he demonstrated great foresight by opening a store in the city of Thousand Oaks, which was as yet largely undeveloped. With strategic expansions over several decades, Wickman grew his business to include six stores at one time, among other ventures. The Wickmans opened the current and last store in Agoura Hills in 2011.

Integral to the store's success have been its employees, several of whom have been with Wickmans Furniture for more than four decades, including Chief Operating Officer Margeo Heimo who’s worked with Bernie 50 years. The Wickmans have always prided their success on the “talented, smart, and well-informed” staff, whom they have considered family.

Through their personal and professional lives, the Wickmans have been generous supporters of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the American Cancer Society and City of Hope.
