American Home Furnishings Hall Of Fame Prepares Time Capsule Marking Opening Of New High Point Headquarters Building

The American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame is putting the final items into a Time Capsule being prepared in honor of the official opening of its new headquarters building in High Point, N.C., on April 22.  The capsule will be opened in 50 years.

The Hall of Fame is gathering items reflective of our time—industry economy, the culture and more. We want your suggestions for what might be included.  What would be interesting and anecdotal in 50 years? The capsule will be housed in a special display located in the courtyard at the entrance to the new Hall of Fame building.  The deadline for submitting items for consideration is April 17. 

“The Time Capsule is an interactive way to capture and honor the significance of this important moment in our industry’s long, distinguished history,” says Karen McNeill, CEO and president of the Hall of Fame Board of Directors. “This will be a milestone as the establishment of a permanent home for the industry where we can gather, honor our leaders, tell our stories and inspire future generations.”

More than a dozen items have been identified for inclusion in the time capsule so far. They include a copy of the original Hall of Fame press release from 1988 and the current press release describing the opening of the new building; a drone shot of downtown High Point showing the buildings near the Hall of Fame; a photo of the Hall of Fame Board of Directors on opening day; a letter from the current Hall of Fame board of directors to a future board of directors; copies of the April High Point Market trade publications, the April 22 High Point Enterprise; a playlist of current hit songs in various genres; a COVID-19 mask; and copies of social media postings celebrating the opening of the new building. 

“Every inch of this landmark building is designed to ignite the imagination of our industry as well as consumers,” says McNeill. “We want everyone to come away from their visit to the Hall of Fame inspired to create more beautiful spaces in what each of us calls home.”

 The industry opening celebration of the Hall of Fame will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 22. The building is located at 311 S. Hamilton St., just one block from the International Home Furnishings Center in the heart of the High Point Market.

 Located at 311 S. Hamilton St., the new Hall of Fame building features multiple meeting spaces, the Hall of Fame Gallery, a Tribute Wall and Innovation Center, an immersive theater, the Trend Spotter Exhibit and continually changing Traveling Exhibits.  Additional interactive exhibits are under development in Phase 2.  Designed as a place for the industry and the community to gather, honor and learn, the facility includes a bar and full-service hospitality kitchen to provide comprehensive food service.
