Skovby Furniture reported that it is celebrating its 90th anniversary marked by the introduction of an iconic #33 table #825 chair in new colors and materials at the spring High Point show. The anniversary table is available with a green or nutmeg colour laminate surface and the anniversary chair is available in the same lacquer colours - as well as in white or black. Both can be seen at the company's 220 Elm Street showroom #330 during High Point Market.
The dining table has gone through several redesigns and optimisations in its time, but the core of the table – the unique patented extension system with integrated extension leaves in the base, dating back to 1986 – remains the same. The base emphasizes the simple geometrical shape of the table and provides it with a modern and timeless appearance. It is a perfect match to modern, minimalistic homes, where functionality is paramount.
With a both contemporary and nostalgic expression, the #825 chair is inspired by the 1960s – but designed in the well-known Scandinavian look. Its rounded back and the upholstered seat provide great support and comfort for the entire body.
Over the past two years Skovby has pursued a comprehensive branding strategy to raise the company's profile.
“We have chosen a new way of communicating – the rhetoric has been brought up to date – and we have changed to a new visual look – younger and more urbane. We have started talking about our already existing furniture in a brand-new context and have launched new items that appeal to a wide range of customers”, marketing manager Jacob Højsted Nielsen says.
Today Skovby 2.0 appeals to a growing audience, a new generation of customers, who have discovered that Skovby products have a unique quality functions. The company produces furniture in Denmark using time tested techniques. Many Skovby products are designed by Danish Architect Per Hånsbæk.
About Skovby: Proud craftsmanship traditions, aesthetics, functionality, natural materials – classic and timeless furniture, yet modern and innovative. This is the essence of Danish design! But it is also the philosophy behind Skovby. Spanning three generations, the passion for wood and good craftsmanship have been the driving force of the Danish family business in Eastern Jutland. Skovby was founded in 1933 by cabinetmaker Thorvald Rasmussen. He was a visionary man who made the foundation of the company we know today.
Uncompromising and professionally proud he made high quality furniture from the very start. His visions and values were passed on to his son Villy Rasmussen and later to his grandsons Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen.
The range is based on 90 years of experience with furniture production and the design is often simple clean lines combined with multi-functionality in the shape of groundbreaking patented solutions. But even though Skovby has a Danish profile, it is an international high-tech company with a positive environmental imprint. They work ambitiously towards a carbon neutral production. The furniture is made from natural materials, carefully chosen with respect for nature, environment, and people. Wood is one of the most sustainable and lasting resources available. Sustainable forests in Europe and North America are increasing and these forest owners plant the same quantity of trees that is harvested. All wood chips and shavings are utilized for heating Skovby premises and contribute to a positive carbon-dioxide accounting.
Sustainability is also achieved by designing, constructing, and producing furniture in the same place, - at the plant in Galten outside the city of Aarhus. The road from raw materials to production is short. Raw materials are not transported unnecessarily between locations to and during production. Many raw materials are from neighbouring areas – everything that is available locally, is obtained and employed locally. Cabinetmakers, architect, and technicians work closely together to create the furniture. Skovby is focused on keeping the traditions of Danish design and good craftsmanship and securing future skilled labour by always educating young cabinetmakers and upholsterers.
Skovby invests time and resources in pushing the agenda for sustainable operations.
The company supports i.a. The Growing Trees Network Foundation in their mission to plant trees, reduce CO2 emissions, protect drinking water, and create more habitats for plants and wildlife.
