ISFD Elects 12 New Board Members

At their recent board meeting the International Society of Furniture Designers (ISFD) elected 12 new industry colleagues to serve on their board of directors. Liz Moore, furniture designer at Otto & Moore, will continue as the chairperson of the board; Steve Wilcox, president at Furnishings Design Inc., will remain as the ISFD president; and Jack Hendrix, partner Hendrix Barney & Co, CPA, will stay on as the treasurer assisting executive director David Blair as part of the executive team.

“I would like to thank all who have given their time and talents to serve on the board in the past years and welcome the dynamic slate of new board members,” stated Blair. “Our enthusiastic new members, combined with our highly experienced current board members and advisors, create a strong, passionate group who will be formidable advocates for the design community. They will also be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals of growing our membership, encouraging member volunteerism and networking, and increasing our funding from grants, sponsorships, and sustaining contributions.”

New to the ISFD board of directors are:

  • Melanie Boggs, founder, Brian Boggs ChairMakers. Collaborating with her husband Brian, she developed and implemented a solid strategic business plan that transformed their fine handcrafted home furnishings company from a studio workshop to a burgeoning small business.
  • Matthew Carr, owner, Carr House LLC. Carr, a recent Appalachian State University Industrial Design graduate, is a three-time finalist in the ISFD INNOVATION + DESIGN competition, winning the student occasional storage category in 2022.
  • Scott Coley, lead designer and owner, D. Scott Coley Designs. Coley is a former ISFD president and board member. He has designed furniture for some of the largest furniture makers in the US, worked with historical associations and celebrities, and has sixty-four US design patents. Coley has also been a judge and recipient of the ISFD Pinnacle Awards.
  • Joe Dunaske, designer, Stickley Furniture. A 2020 graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design, Dunaske has been working at Stickley Furniture under director of design Marissa Brown for the past two years. He hopes to one day work as a teacher, so he can impart his passion and knowledge to the next generation of furniture designers.
  • Annina Fremgen, designer, Caracole. After earning a BFA with honors from Kendall College of Art and Design, Fremgen started her career as lead designer for Caracole, where she continues to bend the rules and hone her skills as a designer. She is also a Pinnacle Award winner.
  • Tammy C. Nagem, president and CEO, High Point Market Authority. Nagem oversees the strategic business development, marketing communications, and operations for High Point Market, the world’s largest home furnishings trade show.
  • Jake Hanson, designer and engineer, L&JG Stickley Furniture. Hanson is a talented designer who loves making art and furniture using natural materials. He started at Stickley as a product design intern and is now a full-time product engineer with a focus on upholstery engineering.
  • Shannon Lookabill, VP product development, Universal Furniture. Lookabill is dedicated to leading an international team focused on the design, product development and delivery of the company’s case goods and upholstery products.
  • Cory Martin, designer, Bernhardt Furniture. With more than 20 years of experience, Cory is a seasoned furniture designer. He also founded Maderas Artisans Mission Collective in Nicaragua which focuses on vocational wood shop training for boys at the Arms of Love International Children’s Home in Nicaragua.
  • John Muldoon, owner, COHAB.Space. A leader in High Point’s entrepreneurial community, Muldoon is the owner of COHAB.SPACE, as well as the furniture brands Clubcu and Blaxsand. He is also a founding member of HPXD.
  • Fred Schubert, director of product development, Global Home USA and owner, Fred Schubert Design, Inc. Drawing on more than 27 years of product development experience, as well as 10 years of design, sourcing, and project management in India, Schubert’s primary responsibilities include creating and managing all design projects and sample development.
  • Fred Spector, owner, Fred Spector Design Studio, Inc. Specializing in commercial and residential furniture, lighting, and tabletop products, Spector’s designs embrace the spirit and essence of form. He is also the head of the Furniture Design Department at Savannah College of Art and Design and has been a previous ISFD Board Member.

The returning board of directors include: Dr. Bryle Henderson-Hatch, PhD, Owner, William Mae Design; Gary Inman, Assistant Professor of Interior Design, David R. Hayworth School of Arts & Design,; Landon Lane, Product Designer and Developer for Our House Designs, LLC; Jaye Anna Mize, VP of Creative|Brand & Creative Strategy Leadership, FS; Laura Niece, Sr. Furniture Designer, Otto & Moore; Nicole Resetar, Strategy & Financial Management Associate, Compass; Catina Roscoe, Freelance Furniture Designer; Paul Rosebrock, Freelance Furniture Designer; Adria Salvatore, Education & Conference Director, Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers; Justin Stabb, Owner, Stabb Designs; Taylor West, Owner, West Design Group.

Returning as advisors to the board are: Jonathan Baron, president Jonathan Baron Interiors; Dawn Brinson, president The Media Matters; Cindy Hodnett, executive editor BridgeTower Media; Karla Jones, executive director Bienenstock Furniture Library; Lewis Mabon, director of product development at Verellen; Richard Prisco, professor Appalachian State University; Chase Ryan, Chase Ryan Furniture; Lauren West, global color and designs manager Sherwin Williams; and Jake Wharton, partner Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP.
