Legacy Classic | Modern Launches Motion Upholstery Division

Furniture World News Desk on 7/13/2023

After 24 years as a casegoods specialist, Legacy Classic | Modern is expanding into upholstery with the launch of a motion upholstery division this fall.

“With the launch of Legacy Motion | Upholstery, we’re taking the same innovative approach we’ve taken as a pioneer in mid-priced fashion casegoods,” said Chris Pelcher, President.

“The motion upholstery category remains one of the most important businesses on any retail floor,” Pelcher added, emphasizing that Legacy will offer “completely differentiated products with wood trim and accents correlating with the finishes of our best-selling casegoods collections. What we are developing is unique in the motion upholstery market from a style and aesthetic point of view. Regarding price/value, our motion category will be in line with our overall mid-priced fashion niche and the price/value equation retailers expect from us.”

Joining Legacy to lead the new division is 25-year furniture industry veteran Beth Dixon, serving in the new position of Senior Vice President – Upholstery. “Our incorporation of wood elements on arms, plinth bases, wood-top consoles and some fretwork chair-backs will appeal to the eclectic tastes of today’s consumer,” said Dixon, who most recently served as President of PRI, the upholstery division of Home Meridian.

Dixon said Legacy Motion | Upholstery plans to focus on leather-match covers with fabric accents in its debut at the October High Point Market, when it will offer approximately 4 sectionals and 6 to 8 sofa-love-recliner/motion chair groups. All mechanisms are power-recline or dual-power recliners with power headrests. In addition to the mix of leather-match, fabric and wood trim, the styles will have a stationary look focusing on a “cleaner, transitional lifestyle appeal, along with some high-leg groups,” Dixon said.

Speaking of Dixon’s leadership of the new division, Pelcher said, “We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Beth’s caliber heading up this exciting launch. Beth has a proven track record, is very well-respected in the industry, and is bringing something fresh and different to the market.” Dixon, who reports to Pelcher, had previous executive experience at Man Wah and HTL prior to her time at Home Meridian, and has long-standing relationships with retailers, tanneries, fabric mills and factories, Pelcher said.
