The prestigious Red Dot Design Rankings placed SCAD as the No.1 university in the U.S. and the No. 2 university in the Americas and Europe for the seventh consecutive year. Since 2005, the Red Dot Rankings have been a sought-after seal of quality recognizing the most innovative in design at the professional and academic level.
Over the last seven years, SCAD has had 24 student award recipients who represent stellar degrees programs including furniture design, industrial design, fashion design and fibers. These students exemplify the very best of innovation and creativity – pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sustainable design and generating imaginative solutions that will help transform the world.
SCAD alum Natalie Schaake (B.F.A, industrial design, 2022) also earned a Red Dot award this year for her uniquely designed chair, Hug. This chair was developed to relieve stress during the assembly process and once complete, the various upholstery and fabric options allow the user to pick the material and feel that they consider most comforting and soothing to them. Schaake was recently honored as the only recipient of Fast Company’s 2023 Innovation by Design Awards in the student category for her creation of this very chair.
Red Dot Design Ranking for Design Concept recognizes the continued investment in design by enterprises and institutions, and is ranked into six distinct honorary lists for companies, design studios and universities, in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific regions. The rankings key areas of focus are sustainability and innovation.
