Shifman Mattress Co. Celebrates 130 Years with New Showroom Opening

Shifman Mattress Co. recently celebrated its 130th anniversary and the inauguration of a new 4,000-square-foot flagship showroom, situated in their historic 136-year-old factory overlooking the Passaic River. The event was attended by more than 75 guests, including retailer partners, East Ward Council Member Michael Silva, company associates, members of the Hammer family who own Shifman Mattress Co., and media representatives.

During the celebration, company president Bill Hammer, representing the fifth generation of family leadership, reflected on the company's longevity and evolution. "This year marks our 130th anniversary. Standing here before you, I am proud to be a part of this family's legacy," he said.

Bill Hammer joined Shifman Mattress Co. in 1994, ascending to the role of president in 2008. Under his leadership, the company underwent a significant factory expansion, adding 24,000 square feet and increasing production capacity. The new showroom is a part of the company's strategic growth plan initiated during his tenure.

At the event, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new showroom, with Bill, his father Mike Hammer, Councilman Michael Silva, Josh Sureksy, the business development manager, and Alison Minella, the marketing director, officiating.

Mike Hammer, addressing the retail partners, expressed gratitude for their role in the company's success. “I feel very proud of what we have, and I thank you for giving it to us. Your feedback is integral to our product development," he remarked.

Ed Christiansen of Brielle Furniture in Sea Girt, New Jersey, a Shifman retail partner for nearly 40 years, praised the company's commitment to quality and customer service, noting their significant role in his business.

Councilman Silva, speaking on behalf of Newark's mayor and city council, emphasized the importance of the Hammer family's legacy in the city. "As councilman, it's my responsibility to ensure that this building and the Hammer family's legacy continue in Newark,” Silva stated.
