Family-owned Fecera’s Furniture to close after nearly eight decades

After 78 years as a pillar of the Berks County community, Fecera’s Furniture is going out of business. The family-owned independent retailer begins final liquidation May 23. The building is for sale.

Since 1946, the Fecera family has worked diligently to build the reputation of Fecera’s Furniture as a reliable one-stop-shop for high quality furniture and mattresses. Owner Connie Fecera now plans to join her husband, Artie, in retirement, closing the doors on a legacy of excellent customer service that set the family business apart for three generations.

Leading furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) is handling all going-out-of-business details and events.

“The Fecera family has been synonymous with quality and exceptional customer service, setting the standard for excellence in the industry, and it is an honor for Planned Furniture Promotions to assist them in their final sale,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP.

Fecera’s Furniture was founded by Arthur J. Fecera, and his wife, Inez, in a small storefront in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. The family’s dedication and hard work led to the expansion of their operations and the addition of new stores in Pottstown in 1960, Reading in 1972, and Collegeville in 1992. By 2001, these smaller locations had closed with all attention turned to the new store in Sinking Springs, the largest building owned by Fecera Furniture.

Arthur J. Fecera died in 1972 at age 52, passing the family business to his son, Arthur A. Fecera (Artie). Driven by the same passion as his father, Artie carried on the legacy of Fecera’s Furniture along with his brilliant wife, Connie. When Artie chose to retire in 2014, Connie continued running the business with the help of her son, Chris. Under Connie and Artie’s expert leadership, Fecera’s Furniture earned industry-wide recognition including receipt of the 2012 Harry C. Kahn Retailer of the Year award from the Tri-State Home Furnishings Association.
