Mattress Concierge Mourns the Passing of Robert E. Richards

Mattress Concierge, supplier of mattresses and sleep products to independent luxury properties and boutique hotels, mourns the death of Robert E. Richards, 51, the owner and managing director of the company. Richards lived in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Gold Bond Mattress will continue to service Mattress Concierge clients and will take on added responsibilities for the business operations of the company on an interim basis.

Richards joined the company in 2017 as a sales representative. Within a year, he secured the largest deal in its history, a complete renovation of the mattress at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. It turned out to be an order for 1,700 beds and was one of the largest recorded in the industry that year as well.

In 2020, he succeeded the company’s founder Jeff Rogers, upon his retirement. Since that time, Richards has focused the business on the burgeoning luxury independent and boutique hotel sector, forming close relationships with the leading brands in this sector.  

Before joining Mattress Concierge, Richards was a road warrior for several decades with top companies in the reinsurance and managed care industries.

Since he spent so many nights in hotels, the lure of working in the hospitality space was always attractive to him. More importantly, because of all the nights away from home that he spent sleeping on hotel mattresses, he appreciated the properties that had better quality and more comfortable mattresses.  

Richards was active in the industry, working closely with the directors of the New England Inns & Resorts Association and the Southern Innkeepers Association.

He received his bachelor's degree from Dickinson College.

“Rob was most proud of his children. He loved sharing in their accomplishments in sports, school and, overall, the people they were growing up to be. He also enjoyed spending time with his many groups of friends and hiking with his beloved dog Finn. Rob had a warm heart and a terrific sense of humor that endeared him to many,” said Skip Naboicheck, president of Gold Bond Mattress and a close friend of Richards. A private family service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested friends, family and business associates to consider a donation to the organization of their choice.
