Edward Massood, an icon and visionary within the furniture transportation industry, received the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award in June from the Specialized Furniture Carriers division of the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA).

The Alvin W. Daughtridge Lifetime Achievement Award was created in 2019 to honor executives whose contributions have had a lasting impact on the furniture transportation industry and whose character and leadership have served as a role model for others. Massood received the award at AHFA’s 2024 Logistics Conference in Charleston, South Carolina, on June 18.

Massood joined his family’s business, MGM Transport, in 1974 and built his career by developing many of the visionary ideas and concepts that propelled the company’s growth over the next three decades he spent there. His dedication to delivering furniture efficiently, his unrelenting commitment to excellence and his ability to forge lasting partnerships with industry leaders helped grow MGM into one of the largest furniture carrier in the United States, a position it held until it was sold to CF Holdings in 2007.

Beginning in 2001, Massood joined with his brother, Michael, and another partner, Thomas Silvano, to open Thomasville-branded retail stores in Northern Virginia and New Jersey. Intimately involved in developing the Thomasville store model from its inception, Massood took pride in providing a pleasurable and personal shopping experience as a standard of excellence in the retail home furnishings business.

According to Massood, his experiences as a retailer afforded him even greater insight into the challenges faced by furniture merchants and manufacturers every day. Armed with this increased understanding and driven by a desire to be an integral part of his customers’ success, he continued his family’s long tradition of furniture delivery when he founded Massood Logistics in 2010.

While Massood serves as president of Massood Logistics, he has turned day-to-day operations over to the next generation, his daughter, Tara Massood Prevo, who is vice president. The company offers a variety of solution-based services from warehousing and assembly to repair and refinishing, packaging and home delivery, as well as distribution services throughout the United States. Warehouses and distribution centers are in Archdale, Eden, High Point and Greensboro, North Carolina.

Massood is active in many industry organizations, including serving as the 2024 chair of AHFA’s Solution Partners Board of Directors. He also is a past president of the Specialized Furniture Carriers and currently sits on the boards of both AHFA and the retail Home Furnishings Association. He serves on the executive board of City of Hope and is a past board member of the Anti-Defamation League and Women in the Home Industries Today. Massood was honored as a “Pillar of the Industry” by the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association in 2023.
