Bedding Industries of America Exec Says Split-Head Mattress Sales Will Continue to Rise Along with Adjustable Bases

Bedding Industries of America (BIA) CEO Jared Carlitz reports that split-head mattress sales are
continuing to grow at a record pace month after month, and he sees the trend continuing as consumers continue to
flock to adjustable bed bases.
“We have dealers selling mattresses with 80-percent attachment rates for adjustable bases. When that consumer
then sees they can trade up to a split-head mattress to get even more benefit from the adjustable base, the sales
ticket rises. Split heads are becoming a very popular –and profitable – upsell for savvy
retailers,” said Carlitz. “As long as adjustable bases continue the popularity with consumers, we
believe split heads will only grow as well.”
To address the trend head-on, BIA plans to spotlight four different split-head models in its showroom in High Point
next month.
“The Fall High Point Market is a great location for us to reach furniture retailers in particular and
show them how split heads add to the ticket and can bring them incremental sales,” he said.
BIA was one of the first producers to introduce split heads nearly 18 months ago with its first Eclipse Glacier Black
Ice mattress. It then expanded the category line-up to five collections at this past summer’s Las Vegas
Market.
The mattresses are crafted with a foam-encased pocket-coil support system and a quilted, taped cover. Cooling fibers
in the fabrics keep out heat and moisture, along with temperature regulating components in the mattress (copper
visco, nano coils and natural latex) that provide a comfortable sleep in all seasons.
Further, the mattresses incorporate BIA’s proprietary ultra-HD Lifedge® foam encasement system, meaning the
mattresses are roll-packable and shippable via UPS or FedEx.
There are three levels to the Eclipse Glacier Black Ice Collection: C (Copper), CN (Copper and Nano Coils), and LN
(Latex and Nano Coils).
Black Ice Copper-Nano is crafted with two inches of naturally anti-bacterial, anti-odor and moisture-wicking
copper-infused visco, as well as over 1,000 one-inch nano coils. The quilted cover is made with ICE-Cool™
fabric.
Black Ice Latex-Nano is crafted with pocketed coils surrounded by targeted layers of 100 percent natural Talalay
latex that provides durability, pressure relief and breathability. One thousand nano coils add further comfort,
pressure relief and support, and the quilted cover made with ICE-Cool™ fabric with glacier COOL™
technology keeps sleepers cool throughout the night.
There is also an Embrace Sleep Collection that offers a three-model line of split-head king and queen beds in 8-inch,
10-inch and 12-inch heights. The mattresses are constructed using Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS)-certified
Dunlop latex encased in a zipper cover crafted from stretch knit spandex cotton. The Embrace is a natural collection
featuring inherent FR rayon that is Greenguard Gold certified and chemical free.
