Furniture World News Desk on 11/13/2024

The Board of Directors of Weir’s Furniture Village, Inc., a family-owned business with roots in the Dallas community since 1948, has announced that Dirk Smith will become the company’s chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

He succeeds J. Mark Moore, who has served as CEO since 2003 and will retire after nearly four decades with the company. Mr. Moore, the grandson of the company’s late founder J. Ray Weir, will continue to serve as a member of the Weir’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Smith joined Weir’s as Director of Merchandising in 2020 after more than 25 years of sales management experience in the bedding and furniture industry. He was promoted to Senior Vice President, Operations in 2022, with responsibilities for directing all the company’s merchandising, marketing and customer service initiatives.

“We expect a seamless transition as Dirk assumes his new role and continues to strengthen Weir’s market position as the furniture retailer of choice through all aspects of the business,” says Alfred Boulden, Weir’s chairman of the board. “He is a seasoned executive with a proven track record of leadership on a regional and national level.”

“I am incredibly excited to serve as the next Weir’s CEO and would like to thank Mark for his support, guidance and strategic leadership over the years,” says Mr. Smith. “Our company has a very strong foundation, and I look forward to building on this history of success and service.”

Mr. Moore began working in the family business as a sales associate in 1986. During his tenure, Weir’s has grown considerably, establishing itself as a leader in the retail furniture industry with a trusted brand reputation, strong financial condition and strategic expansion, including three additional locations in North Dallas, Plano and Southlake.

“Mark’s business acumen and focused leadership over the years has earned him the utmost respect of Weir’s employees and customers,” says Mr. Boulden. “He has continued to foster the values-based culture established by his grandfather, and we greatly appreciate his many contributions.”

Under Mr. Moore’s leadership, the site of the original location on the eastern edge of Highland Park was transformed in 2022 into the 12-story Weir’s Plaza, a $155 million mixed-use project anchored by a 28,000-square-foot Weir’s Furniture Store.

“I am honored and grateful for the many opportunities and experiences I’ve had throughout my career and am extremely proud of our employees and their unwavering commitment to serve our customers,” says Mr. Moore. “I believe Weir’s is well-positioned to grow and thrive in the years ahead and I have every confidence that Dirk’s strategic vision will help us achieve continued success with superior levels of products, customer service and technology, along with our strong commitment to social and corporate responsibility.”
