Just in time for winter solstice, Houzz released the Houzz U.S. Emerging Winter Trends Report
based on the latest search insights from our community of homeowners, home design enthusiasts and remodeling and
design professionals.* The trends reflect a desire to create homes that feel as welcoming as they do stylish with
decluttered spaces, multi-functional furniture and storage, bright holiday hues and cozy textures. And yet,
homeowners are also seeking to bring in modern flair with bold patterns that add a contemporary edge to their
interiors.
Smart Entertaining Solutions
The holiday season offers ample opportunities for entertaining and hosting, and people are getting organized with
stylish, multi-functional features in the home. Searches for “kitchen islands with a drop leaf,” which
surged 3.5x compared to the same period in 2023, indicates a preference for flexible, space-saving solutions in the
kitchen, allowing homeowners to flex between prep and mingling spaces, as needed. Similarly, the popularity of
searches for “pop-up trundle daybeds” (up 3x) suggests that homeowners are looking for versatile
furniture to accommodate overnight guests, making entertaining both practical and inviting. Winter celebrations are
often rich with music and nostalgia, and nothing marries the two better than vinyl records. Searches for
“vinyl record storage” increased nearly 1.5x, pointing to the desire for stylish solutions that double
as design features in entertainment spaces. Wondering how to declutter and optimize your own home for wintertime
hosting? Searches for "professional
organizers" are up 1.5x!
Embracing Seasonal Cheer
Creating a welcoming atmosphere can also be achieved through seasonal-inspired decor. Homeowners are infusing their
decor with cheerful holiday colors, with searches up nearly 4x and 2x for “green decorative pillows” and
“blue decorative pillows”, respectively. “Green table lamps”and “red rugs” also
saw a bump in search traffic, further highlighting the appeal of festive color palettes. Searches for “wool
rugs” grew nearly 1.5x, offering a resilient, tactile layer of comfort that’s especially appealing
during gatherings due to their natural stain-resistant properties. If you’re working with an interior designer
this year, ask them to lay out their boldest ideas in a visual Mood Board.
Geometric Decor & Designs
To add balance throughout the winter season, homeowners are ushering in more modern and structured designs,
particularly in the form of geometric shapes. Searches for “arched cabinets” nearly tripled, reflecting
a growing interest in organic modern style. “Oval
mirrors” are also having a moment, up 41% compared with the same period last year. That number leaps up 5.5x
specifically for searches of “oval bathroom vanity mirrors”! To add visual contrast, homeowners are
pairing rounded forms with “square coffee tables” and “checkerboard floors” (both up nearly
1.5x), creating visual interest and sharper-lined structure in rooms. These elements create a bold, graphic
statement that pairs beautifully with the softer textures and colors seen in other festive
decor.
