Whittier Wood Products is celebrating 50 years in the furniture industry in 2025.
Founded in 1975 when Gordon Whittier purchased a small wood component factory in Eugene, the
company has grown from its early focus on craftsmanship into a significant manufacturer of solid wood furniture.
Initially specializing in ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture, the company expanded its capabilities
over the years. Key leaders, including Gordon Whittier, Evert Slijper, and Scott Whittier, guided
the business as the DIY market grew, making strategic investments in both operations and employees.
To adapt to a changing market, Whittier opened a second factory in Vietnam, expanding its assembly
and finishing capabilities. This move led to the launch of the Whittier Wood Furniture brand in
2007, shifting the company’s focus from RTA products to finished furniture for traditional retail
stores.
Today, a third generation of family members has joined the business, continuing the company’s
longstanding values of honesty, integrity, and craftsmanship.
Whittier Wood Products will mark its 50th anniversary with a celebration on April 25, 2025,
before the official opening of High Point Market. A separate employee event will be held in
Eugene, honoring both current and former employees.
