Sleep Number Launches BreatheIQ App to Help Users Monitor and Understand Snoring

Sleep Number Corporation has introduced BreatheIQ™, a new mobile app designed to help
individuals better understand their snoring patterns and potential underlying health issues. The free app uses audio
input from a smartphone to analyze snoring and offers educational insights, with the goal of encouraging users to
take proactive steps in managing their sleep health.
An estimated 116 million U.S. adults snore, which may disrupt their own sleep as well as their partners’. While
lifestyle changes and smart bed adjustments can help reduce snoring, certain snore patterns may indicate more
serious health concerns that warrant medical evaluation. BreatheIQ provides users with information about snore types
and breathing irregularities. Through an upgrade to BreatheIQ+, users can access enhanced features, including the
ability to track snore phenotypes and respiratory trends over time.
“Most people have no idea that snoring may mean more to their health. BreatheIQ lets consumers easily
understand their snoring and breathing irregularities,” said Annie Bloomquist, Chief Innovation Officer at
Sleep Number. “BreatheIQ eliminates barriers to the long and complicated process of sleep assessments, making
them accessible to more people and encouraging users to take better control of their sleep health. In partnership
with GEM SLEEP, Sleep Number is empowering sleepers to uncover the meaning of their snore, and take action toward
care for chronic sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, without leaving home.”
The app offers users the option to connect to GEM SLEEP, a virtual care clinic, for a medical assessment and
potential diagnosis of sleep apnea. BreatheIQ does not diagnose or assess the risk of sleep disorders itself but
serves as a bridge to care. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, over 30 million U.S. adults have
been diagnosed with sleep apnea, though an estimated 80% of cases remain undiagnosed.
Sleep Number’s existing Smart Sleepers have received notifications within their Sleep Number app to download
BreatheIQ. Those who upgrade to BreatheIQ+ will gain access to RespiratoryIQ, a feature that monitors respiratory
patterns over time, offering users data that may indicate illness onset or recovery. Subscription plans for
BreatheIQ+ start at $14.99.
BreatheIQ is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. Use of a Sleep Number smart bed is not
required. The app was developed in partnership with Diametos GmbH, a German company specializing in snore-related
digital health applications and known for its extensive repository of snore phenotype data.
