Bassett to Launch 35-Piece Newbury Collection at Spring High Point Market

Furniture World News Desk on 4/22/2025

Bassett Furniture will introduce its new 35-piece Newbury collection at the Spring 2025 High Point Market, signaling a renewed focus on traditional design aesthetics. Developed for both retailers and interior designers, the whole-home collection includes furniture for living, dining, bedroom, and entry spaces.

Newbury integrates traditional silhouettes with rounded forms and a variety of finishes and materials. Key design elements include white oak, pencil rattan, and grasscloth, with some case goods finished in a gesso textural treatment that mimics the weave of fabric.

Grasscloth appears throughout the line, including a chevron pattern in a warm white finish on bookcase backs and credenza fronts. Bedroom pieces incorporate blue striae-patterned grasscloth on nightstands and dressers, with an additional neutral option also offered. Custom-designed hardware in a bee-skep shape, finished in polished nickel with an antique patina, complements the collection’s warmer tones.

Highlights from the collection include:

  • A sculptural console reminiscent of stacked blocks
  • A variety of reeded case pieces, including cocktail and console tables
  • Rounded cabinets with glass fronts, available in white oak or gesso with grasscloth details
  • A cocktail table with drawer access from both sides

Accessory items are merchandised alongside the collection to support a variety of home environments. A bedding ensemble created specifically for Newbury features an Indian block print with tones of sage green, mustard yellow, and saffron, paired with layered textiles such as a striped coverlet and quilted duvet.

“Newbury represents our vision of traditional design reimagined—fresh, relevant, versatile, and meticulously detailed,” said Anne Spilman Souter, Bassett’s creative director and former NYC-based designer, who led the development of the collection.

“The current times are stressful, and our research consistently told us that people want to exhale when they get home, surrounded by the things they love. We wanted to achieve a feeling of warmth in a comprehensive collection that could easily be personalized, with individual, sculptural pieces that could live within the collection or be used on their own,” Souter said.

She added, “We thought a lot about how the pieces could or would be used in different rooms, and not just living, dining and bedrooms, but also entries and vestibules, the kind of common spaces that call for one fabulous piece.”

Retail prices for the Newbury collection range from $349 for occasional tables to $2,199 for larger statement items.
