Universal Furniture will unveil its largest upholstery introduction to date at the Spring 2025 High Point Market,
with nearly 50 new designs. The launch includes a range of special-order and ready-to-ship pieces that emphasize
organic forms, soft curves, and tactile materials.
The initiative marks a significant step forward for Universal’s upholstery category under the leadership of
Rick Lovegrove, who joined the company in mid-2024. His focus has been on expanding the upholstery offering and
creating designs that bridge existing scale gaps in the product line.
“Classic designs with lots of curves and organic shapes will dominate the sofa and accent chair
introductions,” said Lovegrove. Notable examples include the Enzo Swivel Chair, which
combines an upholstered seat with a woven natural fiber back, and the Kylo Accent Chair, featuring
a horseshoe-shaped, padded back rail supported by a wooden cradle base.
Fabrics in the new collection shift away from stark whites toward neutral, texture-rich options, some of which are
made with recycled yarns. Leather options also reflect this warmer direction, with the introduction of Italian
performance leathers and full aniline options treated for durability and ease of care.
Ready-to-Ship Highlights:
- Mercer Sectional: Features a wide track arm, spring-down cushions, and a floating silhouette.
Also offered as a sofa and chair.
- Hyde Power Motion Sectional: A modular motion option scaled for small spaces, available as a
sectional, two-seater sofa, or chair. Includes zero-wall functionality and minimal controls.
- Vesta Swivel Chair: A contemporary swivel chair with vertical channel quilting and a loose
spring-down cushion, available in fabric or leather.
- Enzo Swivel Chair: Combines a warm white upholstered seat with a woven jacket-style back.
- Kylo Accent Chair: Features a round seat and curved padded backrest, designed for both comfort
and standout appeal.
Special-Order Pieces Made in Conover, N.C.:
- Chelsea Sofa and Sectional: Sculptural silhouette with softly rounded arms and a padded back,
suitable for floating in open spaces.
- Commons Bench: A low-backed, rectangular bench available in two lengths and multiple finishes.
- Lamar Swivel Chair: Barrel-back design with an X-shaped wood swivel base and loose cushions.
- Ghent Sofa: Includes Belgian flared arms, a tight seat, and loose back cushions, balancing
modern and casual aesthetics.
“A lot of our existing styles are large or smaller pieces—we needed that just-right middle ground,”
Lovegrove said of the updated scale across the new introductions.
Universal’s showroom at High Point Market will present the full Spring 2025 upholstery collection later this
month.
