King Koil has appointed Bob McCarthy as Senior Vice President of Strategic Development, a new role aimed at supporting the company’s ongoing retail expansion efforts. McCarthy brings three decades of experience in the mattress industry, with a background in both wholesale and retail operations.
In his most recent role, McCarthy served as Managing Director of Resident Home’s retail network, where he helped establish and grow the company’s retail presence to over 4,000 North American locations prior to its acquisition by Ashley Furniture. His previous experience includes nearly 12 years with Tempur Sealy International, where he advanced to Division Vice President of Sales, and six years with Simmons, ultimately serving as a key account manager.
“I have known Bob for many years and have watched his success building brands in our industry both on the wholesale and retail side of the business. I know he will be a great asset to our retail partners and sales team as a resource to help grow our national footprint,” said King Koil CEO David Binke. “Bob joins a great sales management team by adding another strategic dimension to what we can offer our customers.”
In his new role, McCarthy will also work closely with King Koil’s strategic partner Blue Bell Mattress Co., supporting growth in the eastern United States.
“I am excited to have Bob on our team. He has an incredible background and track record in helping manufacturers accelerate growth. After all of the positive repositioning of the King Koil brand that has taken place over the past few years, we are ready to take advantage of all he has to offer,” said Derek Ritzel, President and CEO of Blue Bell Mattress Co.
McCarthy’s appointment follows a series of internal promotions at King Koil aimed at strengthening its sales organization. David Long has been named Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Vice President of National Sales. Doug Kinde, Senior Vice President of National Accounts, now reports to Long. Chris Taheny, who joined earlier this year as Senior Vice President of New Business Development, has expanded responsibilities overseeing sales in the South and Midwest. Jacob Bell now serves as Vice President of Sales for the Western region.
McCarthy earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from the University of Massachusetts. He is also a director of the Zachary Thompkins Memorial Fund, a nonprofit focused on Long QT syndrome awareness, and has been actively involved in youth sports coaching in New Hampshire. He resides in Merrimac, N.H., with his family.
