It was 1934 and back to the future all over again at Cory Home Delivery’s 80th Anniversary celebration in the Grand Ballroom of the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City. It was a special moment indeed as more than 250 industry dignitaries, longtime associates, family members, friends, and company representatives came together to celebrate the industry milestone.
The festive gala honoring the third-generation family-owned and -operated business that is America’s No.1 home delivery company was celebrated with both substance and style. During the formal program, executives praised founder Joseph Cory and his vision in 1934 when he established the company, people along the way who have worked tirelessly to adhere to his founding principles and make the company what it is today, and the company’s aggressive plans for the future.
“We are truly honored that so many came together to celebrate,” says CEO Patrick Cory, grandson of founder Joseph Cory and son of chairman of the board Joe Cory, Sr., before taking a moment to reflect on the direction in which the company and the industry are heading.
“This is the dawn of a new era, predicated by consumers’ extensive use of cell phones to make purchases and track orders. The time from purchase to delivery is radically compressed. People want deliveries faster than ever before,” he says.
“The writing is on the wall. We in the home delivery business must adapt by developing faster and better ways to meet this challenge. As my grandfather would often say, in our business there are only two things of importance. One is the customer, and the other is the furniture. If you take care of customers, they come back.”
For Cory, being there for customers was a mainstay of the business in 1934 that still holds true today.
