CORT, a Berkshire Hathaway Company and the nation’s leading provider of transition services, has partnered with FamilyAid Boston to provide supportive housing solutions for approximately 2,500 homeless parents and children in Boston, Massachusetts, each year. More specifically, CORT has provided furniture solutions for FamilyAid Boston’s apartment-based shelter units in an effort to provide families with private, neighborhood-based shelter while they work to regain their stability and return to permanent housing.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the population of homeless families in Massachusetts is rising faster than any other state in the country, increasing by 40 percent from 2007 to 2014. To tackle this growing issue, FamilyAid Boston works to resolve their immediate crisis of homelessness in addition to working with families to develop a tailored plan to help them return to permanent housing.
“Last year, we helped nearly 2,500 parents and children, providing almost 900 of those with shelter and support services,” said Rich Ring, Executive Director at FamilyAid Boston. “In addition, 465 formerly homeless parents and children have reentered permanent housing with the help of our case managers. We help families that have hit a difficult time get into stable housing and provide assistance that ensures these families have stability when they leave us.”
Over the past eight years, CORT has worked with FamilyAid Boston to provide furniture and accessories for roughly 1,000 shelter housing units. CORT furniture solutions include sofas, beddings, dressers and artwork. In addition, CORT has donated furniture accessories such as lamps and artwork, helping turn the apartment units into homes.
“CORT is honored to be a partner of FamilyAid Boston, helping address the ever growing issue of family homelessness,” said Brandon Lamphear, CORT retail sales manager in Boston. “Through this partnership with FamilyAid Boston, we’re helping families create a new start after facing homelessness.”
