The Greater Metropolitan Home Furnishings Association (GMFA) recently announced that Peter Sorrentino has been chosen as the recipient of the 2016 Howard Liveright Memorial Award.
Retailers, manufacturers, representatives and industry suppliers will gather for this annual event, a festive kick-off to the holiday season on November 19th at The Palisadium, Cliffside Park, NJ, just minutes from the George Washington Bridge.
Mr. Sorrentino is Vice President of Delivery Operations and Outbound Logistics at Bob’s Discount Furniture. He is responsible for supply chain management of all international logistics operations, outbound logistics operations, and home delivery and routing operations. Prior to joining Bob’s, Peter held strategic and operational management positions with Exel Direct, DHL and served in a corporate role at Office Depot for several years as an Area Director of Transportation, where he led major initiatives and expansion in the home delivery and logistics space.
“It’s an honor to be this year’s recipient of the Gans Award,” says Sorrentino. “I’ve been mentored by some great people over the years and worked for tremendous organizations. My hope has always been to pay it forward so this award is especially meaningful.”
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Peter Sorrentino whose level of professionalism and expertise are of the very highest order,” says Patrick Cory, GMFA’s Chairman of the Board and CEO of Cory Home Delivery. “In addition to being a wonderful family man, he’s the kind of a person who jumps in and does what’s necessary, such as coordinating Bob’s efforts following Hurricane Sandy to provide loads of food, clothing and relief supplies to assist hard hit storm survivors on Staten Island. He’s also heavily involved with Bob’s golf outing, that this year raised over $600,000 for local Connecticut children’s charities.”
Eric Bernstein, GMFA’s President and Owner of retailer Berkshire Furniture, adds, “GMFA is proud to honor Peter Sorrentino with the Liveright Award and Eugene Chrinian, Owner at Ashley Furniture HomeStores of Metro New York and New Jersey with the Jerry Gans Memorial Award. GMFA’s annual event, presents an opportunity for retailers, reps, manufacturers and suppliers to network with industry friends while enjoying great food, an open bar, music and this year one of the best live bands in the Tristate area. So bring your dancing partner.”
