Cargill announced that four companies teamed up with Cargill’s BiOH® polyols business to donate a sofa, chair, mattress, carpet-backing, and underlayment to a family moving into a green Habitat for Humanity home dedicated this past weekend in Crystal, Minn.
Healthier Choice, Lane Home Furnishings, Serta, and HOM Furniture all participated in donating products- some made in part with Cargill’s BiOH® polyols, a soy-based alternative to the petroleum-based ingredients normally used in polyurethane foam.
The house, located on 36th Ave. N., is Habitat’s first Twin Cities home to seek “green” certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The Healthier Choice carpet backing and underlayment has already been installed in the home; new homeowners Fahami Jibril and Suna Omer will pick out the Lane sofa and chair and Serta Mattress from a local HOM Furniture store once they have closed on the home early next month.
“We’re thankful to our valued partners in helping us put together this donation,” said Yusuf Wazirzada, head of Cargill Biobased Polyurethanes. “These products represent a step on the journey to a more sustainable world. Healthier Choice, HOM Furniture, Lane Home Furnishings and Serta share our values for helping communities and exploring more sustainable options for consumers who are increasingly seeking them.”
