AWFS® has teamed with WEIMA America, the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and Freeman, the association’s show general contractor, to set up a “Destroy Responsibly” recycling program at AWFS®Fair, Wednesday, July 15 – Saturday, July 18.
WEIMA will provide a WL15 shredding system that will be in constant operation during show hours, grinding all of the demonstration wood scrap as well as any discarded shipping or packing materials used by exhibitors.
The wood chips will be donated for landscaping at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas through the efforts of the non-profit organization Greener Vegas.
"By shredding the wood waste materials, we can significantly reduce the bulk of materials and instead put it to good use, by donating to a local non-profit," said Marguerite Hoffman, Vice President, Tradeshows, AWFS. “Normally, the waste generated by the show would go to a landfill. Instead, we’re donating to a good local Las Vegas cause.”
Look for the "Destroy Responsibly" messaging throughout the convention center and view the shredder in action outside the freight doors in the Central Machinery Hall near WEIMA America's booth #10800. While you're there, check out the complete line of WEIMA shredding, grinding and briquetting equipment.
"We are excited to be involved in a program where we can help impact our environment in a positive way," said Vikki Van Dam, Marketing Manager, WEIMA America.
In addition to its program with WEIMA, LVCC and Freeman, AWFS is turning the fair more environmentally-friendly in other ways:
- Environmental experts to host Green Desk, an on-the-spot resource for exhibitors/attendees to ask questions on sustainability, green certifications, state and federal regulations
- The Going Green education track of the College of Woodworking Knowledge (CWWK), the largest education program in the industry, will address highly critical “green” issues of relevance to the wood manufacturing industry, from understanding green building and wood product certifications, to combining the strengths of Lean Manufacturing with green practices.
The full-scale international AWFS®Fair, scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 – Saturday, July 18, 2009 in Las Vegas, has become a critical hub for international commerce in the woodworking industry. The AWFS®Fair brings together the entire home and commercial furnishings industry, including manufacturers and distributors of machinery, hardware, lumber, construction materials and other suppliers to the furniture, cabinet manufacturers and custom woodworkers.
