La-Z-Boy announced that New York House magazine recently presented the EcoComfort™ by La-Z-Boy collection with an Innovative Green Design Award (IGDA). The IGDA was developed by New York House magazine and owner ScheinMedia this year to honor home product designs that offer consumers the greenest materials, most sustainable methods of manufacturing, highest energy efficiencies, greatest innovations and minimal carbon footprints in categories including furniture, household appliances and lighting.
The EcoComfort by La-Z-Boy collection was specifically recognized with a Special Mention for Major American Manufacturer IGDA for demonstrating an outstanding effort from a major corporation to provide environmentally-friendly furniture to consumers.
“We are honored to receive one of the inaugural Innovative Green Design Awards for the EcoComfort by La-Z-Boy collection,” said Doug Collier, chief marketing officer for La-Z-Boy. “This collection answers our consumers’ demand for sustainable furniture that also is comfortable, durable and customizable to fit any home or decorating style.”
The EcoComfort by La-Z-Boy collection, launched in summer 2008, offers several popular sofas, recliners and chairs that come standard with soy-based foam cushions. Designed to meet strict La-Z-Boy standards, EcoComfort cushions are just as comfortable as the company’s traditional cushions – and, because they are created from soy, a renewable resource, they leave a smaller environmental footprint. Consumers also can choose from hundreds of fabric options, including dozens of Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified fabrics made from sustainable materials. Styles in the collection include the new EcoComfort “Terra” recliner (suggested retail price $599 USD), featuring arms made of renewable rubber wood.
“The caliber of entries in our first-ever Innovative Green Design Awards was inspiring. We at New York House celebrate not only the winners, but all efforts to promote true sustainability,” said Jonathan A. Schein, CEO and publisher of ScheinMedia.
The June issue of New York House features complete coverage of the winning products and details the judging process. A Web-exclusive video of the judging, including debates about issues surrounding sustainable design, can be found on NewYorkHouseMagazine.com.
