Southeastern Home Furnishings Assn. honored its top retailer and manufacturer’s representative during its annual convention June 7-9, 2009, in Destin, Fla.
Don and Theresia Perkins of T.H. Perkins Furniture, Brookhaven, Miss., were named SEHFA Retailer of the Year. The award honors the retail home furnishings executives for their contributions to their community, humanity and the furniture industry.
The business was started in 1887 by Don's great-grandfather, Thomas Hayes Perkins, Sr. Theresia is a lifetime member of her local chapter of the Junior Auxiliary Club, and Don is active in the Kiwanis Club.
The SEHFA Traveler of the Year award was presented to manufacturer’s representative Mark Bowen, Tupelo, Miss., in recognition of his high standard of professionalism in his field. Mark has been in the furniture business for 33 years and represents Magnussen Home, Philip Reinisch and Ultra Shield. He is also involved with the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Other awards presented during the convention were the President’s Recognition Award, which went to Sealy, Inc. for their long-time support to SEHFA, and the President’s Award, which went to outgoing SEHFA President Ralph Holley of Holley’s Home Furnishings, Alexander City, Ala.
Southeastern Home Furnishings Association (SEHFA) is a regional affiliate of National Home Furnishings Association and serves furniture retailers in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle.
National Home Furnishings Association (NHFA) is the nation’s largest organization devoted specifically to the needs and interests of home furnishings retailers.
